Routine Maintenance on Mazourka Peak Comes with a Spectacular Wildflower Display

BISHOP, Calif. — Keeping a radio station on the air sometimes means heading far off the beaten path. On Thursday, MC Hubbard and Jason Brown of Sierra Wave Media made the drive to the top of Mazourka Peak to top off the batteries that power the station’s remote broadcast equipment, helping ensure reliable service for listeners throughout the Eastern Sierra.

While the maintenance trip was all about keeping the signal strong, the journey also provided a reminder of the area’s natural beauty. Recent conditions have produced an impressive display of wildflowers along the mountain road, with colorful blooms covering hillsides and meadows near the summit. Sierra Wave Media captured several photos during the trip and is sharing them with the community, offering a glimpse of the spectacular scenery found high above the Owens Valley.
