California Assembly Recognizes Bishop Union High Football with Special Resolution

BISHOP, CA – The Bishop Union High School varsity football team received a prestigious honor this week as representatives from the California State Legislature visited the campus to present a formal resolution celebrating the team’s recent championship success.

Austin Gilbert, District Director for Assemblyman David Tangipa, presented the framed resolution to the team on the steps of the high school. The Assembly resolution officially recognizes the Broncos as the CIF 5-A State Champions, a milestone achievement for the program.

During the presentation, Gilbert highlighted Assemblyman Tangipa’s deep connection to the sport. Tangipa, who played for Fresno State from 2015 to 2018, remains an avid football fan and has followed the Broncos’ journey closely.

“He loves football, he loves watching you guys compete,” Gilbert told the gathered players and coaching staff. “On behalf of the entire California Assembly and the State Senate, we just say congratulations.”

Gilbert also offered a special message to the 20 graduating seniors on the squad, wishing them luck in their future collegiate and professional endeavors.

In a show of mutual appreciation, the Bishop Union coaching staff presented Gilbert with a custom white Broncos helmet featuring the number 88—the same number Tangipa wore during his career at Fresno State.

The ceremony concluded with a group photo of the championship team, coaches, and district representatives, marking a historic chapter for Bishop Union High School athletics.
