FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 20, 2026 CONTACT: Michael Draper, Principal Administrative Analyst
Mammoth Community Water District Urges Compliance with Level 0 Water Conservation Restrictions, Landscaping Permit Requirements, Turf Rebate Participation, and Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing.
Mammoth Community Water District (“the District”) reminds all customers that spring is the ideal time to ensure compliance with essential water safety and conservation measures. The District will continue to enforce permanent Level 0 Water Conservation restrictions, which include the following:
-
Landscape irrigation is prohibited between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.
-
Addresses ending in even numbers may water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
-
Addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
-
Landscape irrigation is prohibited on Fridays.
-
Customers must prevent water runoff or ponding caused by irrigation.
-
All hoses must be equipped with automatic shutoff devices.
A free* landscaping permit is required for any project that adds 500 square feet or more of new landscaping, or replaces 2,500 square feet or more of existing landscape areas. These permits help ensure all landscaping installations meet current water efficiency standards and support sustainable irrigation practices.
Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the District’s Turf Rebate Program. Replacing traditional turf grass with low-water-use plants, mulch, or other approved landscape designs reduces landscape maintenance and conserves water. Rebate applications are available on the District’s website.
The District also reminds customers that annual backflow prevention assembly testing is now underway. Testing backflow prevention assemblies is required in order to safeguard the public water supply. These devices protect drinking water from potential contamination caused by a reverse flow from irrigation systems, fire sprinkler systems, or other cross-connections. Customers should schedule testing with a certified backflow tester to remain in compliance and help prevent possible hazards in the water supply.
For detailed information regarding landscaping permits, rebate programs, or backflow assembly testing, please visit www.mcwd.dst.ca.us or contact Michael Draper at 760-934-2596 ext. 274 or [email protected].
*Landscape permits are free for single family residential properties with landscape areas between 500 and 4,999 square feet. Permits are also free for multi-family and non-residential properties with landscape areas between 500 and 999 square feet.
