Bishop Lions CLub Hosted Region 3 Student Speech Contest
The Bishop Lions Club proudly hosted the Region 3 Student Speech Contest, bringing together talented young speakers from across the area to showcase their public speaking skills. Students delivered thoughtful and engaging speeches, demonstrating confidence, poise, and a strong command of important topics. The event highlighted the dedication of the participants as well as the Lions Club’s ongoing commitment to supporting youth development, education, and leadership within the community.

Bishop Lion Past President Barb Smith is shown presenting Makayla Frazier with winning certificate for recent Lion Region 3 of CA/NV District 46 student speakers contest, held recently in Bishop. Makalya is a high school Junior in Yerington,Nevada, and will next be competing at the District level at the Lions District 46 convention the first weekend in May.

Bishop Lion Barb Smith is shown presenting Mary Mae Kilpatrick a certificate of appreciation from Bishop Lions and Region 3 of Lions CA/NV District 46 for her serving as Judge for the recent Region level student speakers contest. Mary Mae has a great history of community service and many years of judging student speech contests for Bishop Lions, and has now also earned the informal title of “Judge Emerita”…..Looking on on Region speech contest Chair Bishop Lion Stan Smith.

Mandi was a new Lion student speaker contest Judge for this event and wowed the Lions and audience with her quick study of contest rules and the participating students, First-Runner Up Rachel Christian from Big Pine High School and Region contest winner Makayla Frazier from Yerington NV High School (both not shown).

Presenting Region student speaker contest Judge Bill Schuck (c) with his certificate of appreciation and thanks for participating in the recent contest are Bishop Lions Barb Smith (l) who is also Region 3 Chair for CA/NV Lions District 46, and Stan Smith (r) who served as Region 3 contest chair for this event. Bill is a retired teacher of music and other subjects, well-known in the Owens Valley area for his skills and sharp wit, who made an excellent participant in judging student preparation of speeches on the subject of Global Warming and Climate Change.

Dana is herself a past winner at local, zone and region Lion student speaker contests and was an excellent choice to watch high school students from Big Pine and Yerington Nevada present themselves with subject research and presentation and public speaking confidence.

Region 3 Lion student speaker contest First Runner-Up Rachel Christian (l) is shown receiving a certificate of appreciation for participating in the recent CA/NV District 46 Region 3 level contest, chaired by Bishop Lion Barb Smith. Rachel is a Freshman at Big Pine High School and indicated she’s interested in participating again next year in the Lion local and possibly higher competitive contest levels.
