April is Child Abuse Prevention Month:
Community Invited to Take Part in Awareness and Prevention Activities
Inyo County, CA — Inyo County Health & Human Services – Public Health and Prevention Division, in partnership with First 5 Inyo County, and the Child Abuse Prevention Council, invites the community to join in recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to raise awareness, strengthen families, and reaffirm our shared responsibility to ensure that all children grow up in safe, stable, and nurturing environments. Preventing child abuse is not the responsibility of one agency alone, it takes a connected, supportive community. According to national data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 1 in 7 children in the United States experiences abuse or neglect each year. Locally, Inyo County continues to prioritize prevention through early intervention, family support, and community engagement efforts.
We have organized several activities to promote awareness and community involvement:
-
Coffee Shop Fridays – Each Friday in April, community members can visit participating local coffee shops (Looney Bean, Little Looney, Pupfish, Black Sheep, Brewed Awakening, and Vibras) and take a survey for a chance to win a gift basket. This is a simple way to support awareness while enjoying local businesses.
-
Community Awareness Displays – Wear Blue Day, Friday, April 10th and Friday, April 24th in support and recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Blue pinwheels, the national symbol for child abuse prevention, and banners will be displayed throughout the county as a visual reminder of the importance of protecting children.
-
Youth Engagement Activities – First 5 Inyo County is hosting a coloring contest, photography contest, and coordinating a Youth Nature Walk in South County to engage children in meaningful ways.
-
Children’s Memorial Flag Raising Ceremony
-
Community Invitation: Community members are invited to attend

Throughout April, and every day, residents are encouraged to check in on families, offer support, and stay connected. Small actions can make a lasting difference. For more information about Child Abuse Prevention Month activities, please visit our website, www.inyocounty.us/CAPC.
