Pile Burn Near the Mammoth Scenic Loop
Bishop, California, February 11, 2026— Recent snowfall has made conditions ideal to continue burning piles in the Dry Creek 37 project area (see attached map). This is part of the Three Creeks Forest Health and Restoration Project, that aims to reduce unnatural forest fuel accumulation to create a healthier natural ecosystem.
Fire and Fuels employees will burn approximately 74 acres of piles, starting February 12, and then over the next few weeks. Some of these piles are located near Highway 395. Crews will be cautious and work slowly to minimize smoke impacts to the Highway. Drivers should be aware that some smoke will still be present in the area between the Mammoth Scenic Loop and Crestview.
Fire managers will be monitoring weather and wind conditions in the project area and will also be working with the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District and the National Weather Service to minimize smoke impacts. Smoke will be visible from Mammoth Lakes, Highway 395, Highway 203, and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.
