William A. Brown Appointed to SSDA Board of Directors, Representing Region 10

Sacramento, CA, January 27, 2026 – The Small School Districts’ Association (SSDA) is pleased to announce the appointment of William A. Brown, Superintendent of Lone Pine Unified School District, to its Board of Directors, representing Region 10, which includes Riverside, San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono Counties.

Superintendent Brown was selected through a nomination process by SSDA members in Region 10. This reflects the confidence of district leaders and their desire for strong representation. SSDA President Dr. Nicole Newman said, “We are excited to welcome William Brown to the SSDA Board of Directors. His experience and commitment to public education make him a strong advocate for the small and rural districts and communities he will represent.”

With 30 years in public education, Superintendent Brown has held many leadership roles at the school, district, and state levels. In 2020, he became Chief Human Resources Officer for Riverbank Unified School District near Modesto, CA. Shortly after, he was appointed by the Governor of California as Deputy Secretary of Human Resources for the state during the pandemic. In 2023, he became Superintendent of the Oroville Union High School District. He now serves the Eastern Sierra community and is excited to make an impact in Lone Pine. SSDA Interim Executive Director Dr. George Sziraki said, “With his experience and leadership, William Brown will strengthen the support SSDA provides to our members and help ensure small and rural districts have a strong voice across the state.”

Superintendent Brown is committed to public education and believes strongly in the role school leaders play in shaping healthy communities. He joined the Board of Directors of SSDA to support and advocate for small and rural school districts, whose challenges and strengths are often different from those of larger systems. He values collaboration, shared learning, and thoughtful policy that reflects the realities of small districts across California.

“I am honored to serve alongside the fellow board members and look forward to contributing to SSDA’s mission of strengthening leadership, governance, and opportunities for students in small school districts,” said Superintendent Brown.

Superintendent Brown earned his BA in Education from Fresno State University and his MS from National University. Over the years, he has written two books and has become a sought-after speaker and mentor for educators across California.

Through his service on the SSDA Board of Directors, Superintendent Brown will bring his experience and dedication to strengthening support for students, educators, and communities across California’s small and rural school districts.
