Lead Foot? Lose Your License.

Special thanks to one of our followers, Don R. For guiding us to this New Law.

If you have a need for speed, California is about to give you a very expensive reality check. Thanks to a tip from one of our eagle-eyed followers, we’ve looked into the state’s latest crackdown on extreme speeding—and the days of just paying a hefty fine and moving on are over.

Starting now, hitting triple digits on the speedometer doesn’t just mean a ticket; it means an automatic date with the DMV that could cost you your right to drive.

The New “FAST” Reality

California has officially launched the Forwarded Actions for Speeding Tickets (FAST) program. This joint pilot program between the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the DMV is designed to bypass the slow-moving court system and get dangerous drivers off the road immediately.

Under the new rules:

Automatic Referral: Every single citation for speeding over 100 mph is now automatically forwarded to the DMV’s Driver Safety Branch.

Administrative Action: Unlike the past, where you waited months for a court date, the DMV can now review your record and move to suspend or revoke your license almost immediately—regardless of whether you’ve been “convicted” in court yet.

No “Clean Slate” Buffer: The DMV is now reviewing these cases even for drivers with zero prior points on their record.

Why the Change?

The stats are sobering. In 2024 alone, the CHP issued over 18,000 citations for speeds exceeding 100 mph. State officials argue that traveling at these speeds is inherently reckless, and the standard legal process simply isn’t fast enough to prevent “irreversible harm.”

What’s at Stake?

If you’re caught doing 100+ mph, you aren’t just looking at a “super speeder” fine. You are facing:

Immediate License Review: Potential suspension or total revocation of driving privileges.

Heavy Fines: Base fines start at $500 to $1,000, but after court assessments, the total often exceeds $2,500.

Point Hits: A mandatory two points on your DMV record (remember, four points in a year leads to an automatic “Negligent Operator” suspension).

Mandatory Court Appearance: You cannot simply mail in a check; you (or your attorney) must appear before a judge.

The Bottom Line

The “FAST” program sends a clear message: the California freeway is not a racetrack. If you’re caught pushing into the triple digits, the state isn’t going to wait for the wheels of justice to turn—they’re going to take your keys.

Drive safe, keep it under 100, and keep those tips coming! Thanks, Don.
