Traffic Advisory for the Week of April 14, 2025
EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of April 14 – April 18.
Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
New Traffic Impacts
Eastern Kern County
· Rosamond Utility Pole Replacements – On the northbound off-ramp to Rosamond Boulevard on State Route 14, the right turn lane will close while utility crews replace transmission poles overnight Sunday and Monday from 9:00 pm to 8:00 am. Drivers may experience brief delays.
· Mojave Striping Operation – On State Route 58 from just east of Exit 172 to approximately 2.5 miles west, crews will stripe the off-ramps and highway Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be intermittent ramp and lane closures and drivers may experience brief delays. Detours will be available.
Inyo County
· Pleasant Valley Crack Sealing – On U.S. 395 from Mill Creek Road to Ed Powers Road, crews will seal pavement cracks on the southbound lanes Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be intermittent lane closures and drivers may experience brief delays.
· Furnace Creek Wire Crossing – On State Route 190 from Texas Springs Road to Borax Mill Road, utility crews will deliver material off the state highway Monday through Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
· Bishop Utility Work – On U.S. 395 between See Vee Lane and Matlick Lane, the northbound outside lane and shoulder will close while utility crews replace infrastructure on Tuesday from noon to 3:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
Mono County
· The Trees Utility Work – On U.S. 395 between Mammoth Scenic Loop and The Crestview Safety Roadside Rest Area, utility crews will replace infrastructure and cross wires over the roadway Tuesday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be intermittent lane closures and traffic breaks, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
· Bridgeport Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 from Point Ranch Road to Huggans Lane, utility crews will replace poles on Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
Ongoing Traffic Impacts
Eastern Kern County
· Kern County Lighting Replacements Project – Crews are installing light poles at:
· State Route 58 at the westbound Boron Avenue off-ramp,
· State Route 58 at the westbound Tehachapi Boulevard on-ramp,
· State Route 58 at the eastbound California City Boulevard on-ramp, and
· U.S. 395 at the northbound off-ramp to State Route 178 E.
Work is scheduled overnight Monday through Friday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.
· Mojave Barrier Repair – On State Route 14 just south of the southern junction with Business Route 58, the inside lane in both directions and median are closed 24 hours a day while crews repair concrete barriers and guardrail cushions. Work is scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
· 23/24 Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project – On State Route 178 E at various locations between Ridgecrest Boulevard and Las Flores Avenue, crews continue to stripe crosswalks. Work is scheduled overnight Monday through Friday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. There will be intermittent lane closures and drivers may experience brief delays.
Inyo County
· Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Project – Construction continues on the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project. Northbound drivers will encounter two traffic switches on the new lanes of U.S. 395 and traffic remains limited to one lane in each direction through the northern half of the project area. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area and 45 mph through the two traffic switches.
The Olancha Cartago 4-Lane Project received $38.3 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change.
