I know from friends in the medical field that it is harder to get patients transferred to other hospitals for non-COVID procedures because the other hospitals are overwhelmed. The Delta variant originated in India, which at the time, had almost NO vaccinations (3% population with at least one shot). It mutated in an area that it could spread freely, because that’s how mutations *work*.
