Mono County Supervisors send letter to CDFW requesting delay in Trout Opening

At last Wednesday’s special meeting of the Mono County Board of Supervisors, they voted to ask the State of California – Natural Resources Agency Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) for consideration to delay the date of the Regular Fishing Season out of consideration for Governor Gavin Newsom’s Stay at Home Executive Order and public safety.

Fishing itself may be distant, but gathering that afternoon at Tom’s Place for beer and lies isn’t.

I have been fishing the opener for over 30 years. I have never been within 6 feet of someone while fishing. I would think there would be less crowds and everything I am seeing is showing that CA is keeping their Social Distancing quite well. Opening the season allows those… Read more »

I think it is probably safe to let the data inform when it opens. Does anyone know if Inyo County seconded this request? It was on the agenda last week.

ICBOS Letter sent dated April 7, 2020 recommending a postponement. Today’s meeting had to be cancelled and rescheduled for next week. The response overwhelmed the system!

It should probably remain closed all season. There’s going to be COVAD19 floating around out there for awhile. I sure don’t want to increase my chances of getting it by having 20,000 people from Southern California up here.
